One-Day Exhibit To Present Student Insights On Museum, History

The Sam Houston Memorial Museum and its grounds are filled with artifacts from the Houston family and Texas history. These items have provided inspiration this summer for students in assistant professor of art Annie Strader’s “Site-Specific Art Practice Class,” and the product of this inspiration will be on display for one day, June 26. Fleming Honored With Two National Advising Awards

William Fleming, executive director of the Student Advising and Mentoring Center at Sam Houston State University, has been selected to receive two elite awards from the National Academic Advising Association as part of the 2013 Annual Awards Program for Academic Advising. Details.

 

 

 

 

 

Shields Named Dean Of Fine Arts, Mass Communication

Ronald E. Shields, former chair of the Department of Theatre and Film at Bowling Green State University, has been named the dean of the College of Fine Arts and Mass Communication at Sam Houston State University, effective July 1. Details.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Campus Prepares Law Enforcement For Active Shooters

Sam Houston State University recently served as the host site for an active shooter training exercise by law enforcement agencies in Walker County to help prepare officers to respond to a disaster. The mock scenarios, which included simunitions and blank guns, were tested in college setting in classrooms and a residence hall. Details.

 

 

 

Regents Approve New Degrees, Health Sciences College

The Texas State University System Board of Regents approved a number of requests from SHSU relating to academic programs at the board’s regular quarterly meeting at Texas State University-San Marcos on Friday, including five new degrees, a graduate certificate program, and a College of Health Sciences. Faculty, Staff Golf Tournament Winners Announced

First place winners of the 19th Annual Faculty & Staff Golf Tournament held on May 13 at Raven Nest Golf Club were Mitchell Muehsam, Dean Lewis, Charlie Vienne and Rich Ballinger. The scramble tournament is held each year on the Monday following spring graduation. The winners are pictured here.

 

 

 

 

 

Police Research Center To Enhance Texas Crime Data

The Police Research Center at Sam Houston State University will help convert crime data from 53 Texas police agencies to a national system that provides more in-depth information for crime analysis as part of a grant funded by the Bureau of Justice Assistance.
