Sam Houston State University is a vibrant, diverse university that welcomes students from all over the United States and more than 70 countries around the world. Advisors in the Global Engagement Center are available to answer questions as you complete your application for admission.

With over 90+ bachelor's degree programs, more than 60+ master’s degree programs and 10 doctoral programs, including the nation’s first PhD in Forensic Science, SHSU offers an exceptional college experience.


General Requirements for all International Applicants

  1. Completed ApplyTexas application.
  2. Pay the $90 international application fee.
  3. English proficiency scores:
    • TOEFL®, IELTS (minimum score is 6.5) and Duolingo accepted.
    • Scores must be current (no further back than 2 years).
  4. Evaluation of international credentials – see specific application type below for details.

SHSU strongly encourages international students currently outside the U.S. to apply at least 90 days before the beginning of the semester for which they are applying. Some graduate programs may have earlier deadlines.
