Media Coverage of International Justice

January 18-20, 2013

International Conference and Training Workshops

The Global Center for Journalism and Democracy is honored to co-host its first international conference "Media Coverage of International Justice" to be held on Friday, January 18, 2013, at the Riviera Hotel in Beirut. The conference is organized in partnership with the SKeyes Center for Media and Cultural Freedom at the Samir Kassir Foundation, thanks to the generous support of the European Union and the Foundation for the Future.

The conference will highlight the media, communications, and outreach strategies of international courts and tribunals. It will also feature journalists who have been covering international trials for years. The conference does not aim to discuss the content of any of the cases currently covered by the courts and tribunals but will focus on the relation between international justice bodies and the media.

Two days of training workshops for journalists will follow on Saturday, January 19 and Sunday, January 20, 2013, with SHSU faculty, international lawyers, reporters, and trainers, sharing their skills and experiences. The workshops will cover a wide array of topics, ranging from legal terminology, sources and resources on international justice, covering international trials for print media, video and photo coverage of international crimes, to the issue of international justice and social media, as well as the best ways to protect the presumption of innocence.
