If you are strong in mathematics and have a desire to shape the world of justice by using science to solve crimes, then a career in forensic chemistry is for you. The Bachelor of Science in forensic chemistry at Sam Houston State University, the first degree of its kind in Texas, is designed to prepare students for careers combining a knowledge of chemistry and the legal system. Through classroom and hands-on laboratory instruction, students learn how to test evidence, preserve the chain of evidence, defend their findings, and present them in court. Students completing this degree are prepared for careers in forensic chemistry in both private and government arenas across the country or for further study in forensic science in graduate school.
Requirements
A minor in criminal justice is required and is included in the curriculum for the degree plan. Most students choose to minor in biology in addition to criminal justice. Some students choose to double major in forensic chemistry and criminal justice with a minor in biology.
