The Department of Public Health at Sam Houston State University (SHSU) offers a Bachelor of Science in health care administration that emphasizes the conceptual and analytical skills required to manage contemporary health care organizations. Students will develop skills in management, health promotion, planning, and human resource administration. Graduates of the program will be prepared to coordinate the delivery of services to prevent disease and foster wellness in the communities they serve. Their decisions can help improve the lives of hundreds, or even thousands, of people every day.

Coursework

Health care administration is a multidisciplinary degree composed of courses from health, business, economics, management, and psychology. Students will learn to distinguish among the various roles in the health care services industry; analyze data and information for effective decision making; recognize the legal and ethical principles and responsibilities of health care organizations; strategically evaluate and improve performance in health care organizations; and demonstrate collaborative leadership and teamwork.

Internships

You will have the option to participate in professional internships with local, state-wide, national, or international health services organizations.
