Texas Success Initiative (TSI)
Students attending Texas public institutions of higher education must be in compliance with the Texas Success Initiative. This program and its associated laws require all students entering college to be assessed for college readiness in mathematics, reading, and writing, unless a student qualifies for an approved waiver or exemption. To read the laws associated with the TSI in full, please click here.
In order to be advised and register at Sam Houston, students must submit TSI scores in all areas, or have a qualifying waiver or exemption on file.
To view your current TSI status:
- Open DegreeWorks.
- DegreeWorks can also be opened by visiting MySam and selecting the "Students" tab, then the "Access to DegreeWorks" link.
- View the "TSI Overall Status," "TSI Writing Status," "TSI Reading Status," and "TSI Mathematics Status" blocks to see if you:
- Are missing scores in any areas
- Have a developmental course placement based on your submitted TSI scores
- Are college ready
