SHSU upgrades website with faculty, staff and students in mind

Sam Houston State University recently launched its redesigned website on December 18, 2012, with the goals of increasing web optimization, eliminating barriers for off-campus students, and updating the look and feel of SHSU’s webpages.

The redesigned home page includes a new set of navigational headers, featuring drop-down menus and other improvements. One of the most noticeable changes to the new navigation places tools previously found across the header into a drop-down menu. Called “Campus Tools”, this drop-down menu is prominently featured above the homepage slide show and provides links to the tools most used by faculty, staff and students: Blackboard, Email, My Sam, SamWeb, and SHSU Online.

“A priority in the redesign was that our internal audience—faculty, staff and students—could still access the tools they needed while keeping them prominent on the homepage,” said Elisa Crossland, director for online programs and communications with SHSU Online.

The redesign is an important first step in SHSU’s Web Optimization Project begun earlier this year.

Other improvements will take place after launch of the new home page. Additional details can be found in Today@Sam or by visiting shsu.edu/web-optimization.
