Cenaiyda Carranza, Career Counselor
Cenaiyda has been working as a career counselor at SHSU for the past year and a half. She enjoys helping students identify their strengths and helping them to explore common threads within different fields of study that could lead them to the right career path. She provides career counseling, interprets career assessments, and also provides resume critiques and mock interviews.
Cenaiyda received her Bachelor of Science in Psychology from Sam Houston State University and later went on to receive her Master of Science in Counseling from University of Houston Clear-Lake. Cenaiyda most recently attained her full counseling licensure from the Texas State Board of Examiners of Professional Counselors.
Prior to Cenaiyda’s work at Sam Houston State University, she provided individual and family counseling in a variety of settings including the non-profit setting and residential treatment setting in the Houston area. Cenaiyda has a strong desire to help and serve those in need. She served as a Peace Corps volunteer in the Youth Development sector in Central America for two years after completing her master’s degree. Once she completed her service as a volunteer, her entire perspective on life shifted. She felt led to continue to give back to the people who became a part of her family away from home. She has served as a short term missionary to Guatemala for several years helping translate for doctors and nurses providing care to families living in rural areas of Guatemala. She enjoys spending time with her young son and exploring the world through his eyes. Her hobbies include hiking, traveling, and spending time in the mountains of Colorado.
