Dr. Henry Howey, Professor of Low Brass, has been an SHSU faculty member since 1976. He completed his brass and musical studies at the University of Illinois (B.M., M.M.) with Robert Gray, and the University of Iowa (D.M.A.). His extensive performing experience includes a tour with the United States Army Band, Washington D.C., as a euphonium player. Dr. Howey serves as state coordinator for wind all-state tryout music.

A founder of the Sam Houston Brass Quintet, he frequently performs on euphonium and tuba with the ensemble. Primarily a trombonist, he is an excellent performer on alto, tenor, and bass trombone and performs on all three in various chamber music groups.
