Research in Undergraduate (UG) Institutions (RUI) Qualifications

For the 2011-2012 academic year, ALL NSF proposal submissions must contain the acronym RUI before the research title (e.g., RUI: Training and Transfer of Executive Processes)

RUI activity supports faculty members of Predominantly UG Institutions (PUIs) for the following types of research:

(1) Individual and Collaborative Research

(2) Purchase of Shared-Use Research Instrumentation

(3) Research Opportunity Awards for work with NSF-supported investigators at other institutions

Eligible PUIs include U.S. 2-year, 4-year, masters-level, and small doctoral colleges & universities that:

(1) grant baccalaureate degrees in NSF-supported fields, or provide programs of instruction for students pursuing such degrees with institutional transfers (e.g., 2-year schools)

(2) have UG enrollment exceeding Graduate enrollment

(3) award an average of no more than 10 Ph.D. or D.Sc. degrees per year in ALL NSF-supportable disciplines (this includes Criminal Justice)

NSF Updates RCR Training Requirement Frequently Asked Questions

The National Science Foundation has updated its list of frequently asked questions related to the requirement that project submissions include plans to assure that students and postdoctoral researchers receive training in the responsible conduct of research.
