Synopsis -Undergraduate student research training opportunities are currently available at the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) National Center for Environmental Assessment (NCEA) in Research Triangle Park, North Carolina. Research participants will be mentored by NCEA scientific staff on projects related to the evaluation of evidence on the health and environmental effects of criteria air pollutants or chemical pollutants.
Participants will be involved in the review and evaluation of currently available scientific information for the purpose of developing integrated science assessment documents and communicating scientific information to other EPA program offices. The participants may be engaged in one or more of the following activities:
- Reviewing and evaluating currently available scientific information for the purpose of developing integrated science documents
- Organizing scientific data to support the development of science assessments and communicating scientific information to other EPA program offices
- Assisting with the HERO database used in organizing the scientific data information used in the assessments

Grant Resource - Smithsonian Environmental Research Center (SERC)
Synopsis - the SERC's Internship Program offers undergraduate and beginning graduate students a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in the fields of environmental research and education. This program enables students to work on specific projects under the direction of SERC's professional staff and is tailored to provide the maximum educational benefit to each participant.
Size of Grant - $4,000 (to student); Projects include terrestrial, atmospheric and estuarine environmental research within the desciplines of ecology, biology, chemistry, microbiology, botany, zoology, mathematics, and physics. Projects are also offered in environmental education and environmental information management.
