The mission of the Gibson D. Lewis Center for Business and Economic Development is to provide support services to existing and potential businesses, economic development agencies, and local governments in the region served by Sam Houston State University. These services include: collecting and publishing economic and demographic data; editing and publishing the Journal of Business Strategies; sponsoring Workshops and Seminars, and providing consulting services.

Activities of the Center for Business and Economic Development are undertaken by faculty of the College of Business Administration, Center staff, and students working under faculty guidance and supervision. These activities provide students with experience beyond the classroom and create an opportunity for the professional and technical capabilities within in the university to be made available to the larger community.
