Summer
Students, are you interested in learning more about the geosciences and spending time on a college campus?
Our 10-day summer bridge program focuses on water and sediment issues in southeast Texas and features instruction from SHSU and LSC-UP faculty. Highlights include a canoe trip on the Trinity River, field trips to local rock formations, laboratory analysis of water samples, and a 2-day trip to central Texas.
Room and board are provided as well as an $800 stipend for students who complete the program.

- Be a high school sophomore or junior, or have less than 35 hours completed community college credits in southeast Texas at the time of application (Spring 2022). Students graduating from their high school or community college before August 2022 are ineligible.
- Have a passion for science, engineering, technology, and/or math (STEM) and a desire to learn more about the Geosciences or Earth Science
- Current GPA of 2.75 on 4.0 scale
Applications for the Summer 2023 bridge program are NOW CLOSED.We anticipate making decisions by April 7th.
The program is scheduled to run from June 11th to June 20st. Students will stay in on-campus dormitories, and all meals will be provided. Instruction will feature a mix of classroom, laboratory, and field settings.
Our program aims for a balance of indoor and outdoor learning experiences, because geoscientists work in a wide range of environments. Students should be prepared for spending extended time outside and moderate (~3 miles) hiking and canoe paddling in Texas summer conditions on some field days. Below is a tentative schedule of activities for our Summer 2022 program. Once students arrive on campus, food, lodging, and transportation are provided for participants throughout the duration of the program.
