Mona Cockerham
Bio
Mona Cockerham PhD, MSN, RN, CPHQ has been a practicing nurse for over 32 years. She completed her master’s degree in Hospital Leadership and Administration and a Ph.D. in Research from Cizik UT Health Science Center, School of Nursing, Houston, Texas where she graduated with honors and was named Ph.D. Student of the Year and Vivian Smith Scholar. Her specialties include oncology, nursing leadership, healthcare quality, and research. She transitioned from Clinical Assistant professor to Assistant-tenure track professor. During her time at SHSU Dr. Cockerham has published three research articles and presented numerous national conferences on the effects of stress and fatigue in nurses working consecutive shifts. Her passion for teaching is to successfully graduate nursing students who can bridge the gap between being a student and a professional nurse. She has received various awards: Texas Nurses Associations Top 20 Nurses of 2018 in Houston, Ph.D. Student Award of the Year, 2015; Nursing Excellence Award. The Good Samaritan Foundation of Houston, Texas, 2014; Vivian L. Smith Foundation Scholar, Accelerated PhD Student Award, 2013.
