Freshman Orientation Information

Orientation helps new students become familiar with services and programs vital to their successful transition as fully active members of the Sam Houston State University community. These one-day sessions collaborate with other university offices and departments to assist students in gaining the skills, information, and meaningful relationships that are key to successful long-term academic and personal outcomes.

All incoming students receive a personalized Orientation registration link through their SHSU Student Email and via text. Please email orientation@shsu.edu with any questions or concerns regarding your registration information.

SPRING 2025

New Student Orientation Dates: Monday, December 9, 2024 and Tuesday, January 7, 2025

• Incoming freshmen who were high school graduates in 2024 are REQUIRED to attend orientation regardless of transfer hours acquired.

• Incoming transfer students, or freshmen who graduated high school prior to 2024, are encouraged to attend Orientation but are not required.

FALL 2025

Orientation registration for incoming fall 2025 students will open in February 2025.

FALL 2025 Freshmen: All 2024-2025 high school graduates are REQUIRED to attend orientation regardless of transfer hours acquired. Dates will open for registration in chronological order. Later sessions will not be released for registration until earlier sessions have filled.
