A partner institution is a college or accredited institution that has an agreement with Sam Houston State University to streamline the transfer process and provide additional benefits to students who transfer to SHSU.
Reverse Transfer of Credit. Credit hours earned at SHSU transfer back to the partner institution, so students who complete the requirements for an associate’s degree after leaving a partner institution, and before completing a bachelor's degree at SHSU, will earn the associate’s degree from the partner institution.
Scholarship Opportunities. Eligibility to apply for the Bearkat Transfer Scholarship.
Academic Advising. Access to one-on-one academic advising at SHSU.
Academic Support Services. Access to Evolve, an SHSU student support program tailored to transfer student needs, as well as the Academic Success Center, Career Success Center, and other areas dedicated to student success.
Joint Admissions. Students jointly admitted to a partner institution and SHSU will receive:
A student ID, computer/internet account, access to computer labs, and access to libraries at the partner institution and SHSU.
Student access to sporting events at SHSU.
Three unofficial transcripts at no cost.
Free electronic transcripts from SHSU to the partner institution upon student request.
Honors Transfer Student Benefits. When admitted to SHSU, Honors students from partner institutions will receive:
Acceptance to the SHSU Elliott T. Bowers Honors College if they have a minimum GPA of 3.25 and satisfy the other SHSU Honors College admission criteria.
A maximum of 12 hours of transferable Honors credits to SHSU.
Eligibility for merit and need-based aid commensurate with qualifications.
Eligibility to live in SHSU Honors housing, space permitting.
Potential additional benefits such as aid for housing, travel and study abroad, and joint admissions.
