Undergraduate Applicants Outside the U.S.

  • International freshmen who attended high school outside the U.S.

    Steps to apply:

    1. Complete an online application and pay the $90 non-refundable application fee.
      Alternatively, you may pay later by mailing a check (address below) or pay through the SHSU Self Service Center.

    2. Send secondary school or high school academic records (transcripts, mark sheets, graduation certificate) in a sealed envelope to the following address:

      Huntsville, TX 73341-2418

      Depending on your country of origin, an advisor may contact you about specific academic records required.

    3. Submit a third party transcript evaluation -Official evaluation of high school transcript from SDR Education (www.sdreducational.org) or NACES member agencies (www.naces.org).

    4. Submit an English proficiency test score
      SHSU accepts the following TOEFL® tests:

      • TOEFL® Essentials™ with a minimum score of 8
      • TOEFL iBT® Home Edition
      • TOEFL iBT® Paper edition with a minimum score of 79

    5. The following countries qualify for an English language proficiency test score waiver.

  • International transfer students who attended a college/university outside the U.S.

    Steps to apply:

    1. Complete an online application and pay the $90 non-refundable application fee.
      Alternatively, you may pay later by mailing a check (address below) or pay through the SHSU Self Service Center.

    2. Create your SHSU Self Service Center account and upload unofficial transcripts from all colleges or universities you have attended

    3. SHSU Graduate Admissions and the Office of International Programs are currently offering in-house transcript evaluation services for international graduate applicants*. Send your official postsecondary academic records (transcripts, mark sheets, graduate certificates, etc.) to the address below:

      SHSU Graduate Admissions may be willing to accept unofficial copies of your academic records. Please upload unofficial copies of your academic records to your Self-Service Center and an advisor will contact you if an official copy is required.

      *Please allow up to 4 weeks for processing evaluations.  Some SHSU graduate programs may still require a third-party transcript evaluation. Please check your program's page to see if this requirement applies to you.

    4. Submit an English proficiency test score
      • SHSU accepts the following TOEFL® tests:
        • TOEFL® Essentials™ with a minimum score of 8
        • TOEFL iBT® Home Edition
        • TOEFL iBT® Paper edition with a minimum score of 79
      • an IELTS of at least 6.5.
      • SHSU is currently accepting Duolingo with a minimum score of 105.
      • These countries qualify for an English language proficiency test score waiver.
      • Students who completed undergraduate or previous degree coursework at a university where English was the language of instruction, and have a GPA of 2.5 or higher, may be eligible for a english proficiency waiver.
      • Check for additional requirements- Locate your master’s, doctoral, or graduate certificate program on the Degrees Offered List for other admissions requirements. You can upload all supplemental materials in the SHSU Self Service Center account.
