New Faculty Investment (NFI) is an event designed to equip new faculty members at SHSU with comprehensive knowledge of the university's resources and provide essential guidance for a successful start. This event aims to prepare faculty not only for their first day but also for their first semester and continued success throughout their academic careers.

  Student Experience and Retention

  Works with institutional stakeholders, reviews institutional goals, values and day-to-day practices, and better aligns them.

  Student Grievances

  Procedures for students to pursue academic and non-academic grievances within the university community.

  SHSU IT

  Includes tech tutorials, services, support, and technology acquisition procedures for the university.

  SHSU Online

  Houses and supports online education at SHSU.

  Services for Students with Disabilities

  Promotes equal access for students with disabilities to the educational programs, services, and activities at SHSU.

  Watermark

  The activity reporting system used for faculty review processes, including tenure & promotion, at SHSU.

  Textbook Adoption

  Course materials must be selected in a timely manner prior to each semester using the Barnes & Noble Insights Portal.

  Campus Connect

  Student success technology allows for student appointment scheduling, alerts, referrals, and communication.

  Federal Aid Eligibility Validation (FAEV)

  Reporting student engagement for financial aid eligibility.

  Newton Gresham Library (NGL)

  The library provides physical and virtual environments with access to quality print, electronic and other resources for instructional and research services.

  First Year Experience (FYE)

  Programs to engage first year students through new student convocation, University 1101: Bearkat U, the Common Reader Program, learning communities, and the FORWARD program.

  First-Generation Center (FGC)

  The center helps first-generation students and their families navigate their university experience.

  TRIO First Generation

  Federal outreach and student services programs designed to identify and provide services for individuals from challenging backgrounds.

  Career Success Center (CSC)

  The Center provides mock interviews, career fairs, job and internship searches, among other strategies to support students’ career development.

  Center for Community Engagement (CCE)

  A hub for campus-community connections and collaborations, the CCE designs, plans, manages, and promotes initiatives that enhance the culture of community and civic engagement.

  A hub providing student success resources including tutoring and coaching.

  Student Advising & Mentoring (SAM) Center

  Houses full-time advisors virtually and face-to-face to serve most majors.

  Ombuds

  An independent, neutral, and confidential place for faculty and staff to have informal conversations about workplace concerns, questions, and issues.

  Faculty Senate

  Faculty Senate is an advisory body that examines issues of interest to the SHSU community.

  Research and Sponsored Programs (ORSP)

  The office partners with faculty, staff, and students to promote, facilitate, and enhance scholarly activities through sponsored projects.

  Writing in the Disciplines

  A program about teaching students how writing works in their chosen discipline and using writing to learn.

  SHSU Counseling Center

  The center provides individual, couples, and group therapy to currently enrolled students.

  Teaching & Learning Center (TLC)

  The center creates and disseminates innovative educational initiatives for instructors to further the scholarship of teaching and learning.
