Sam Houston State University is a student-centered, community engaged institution whose mission is to offer an accessible, quality higher education. Designated a Doctoral University – High Research Activity (R2), a Hispanic-Serving Institution, and “Community Engaged” by the Carnegie Commission on Higher Education, SHSU offers more than 90 bachelor’s degree programs, more than 60 master’s degree programs, and 10 doctoral programs across eight colleges and three campuses to its approximately 21,000 students. About half of those students are first-generation, and we are proud to have been named one of the top universities in Texas for social mobility by U.S. News & World Report two years in a row.
