Banner 9 and My Sam FAQs
We have compiled a few frequently asked questions around the new My Sam portal and Banner 9. This list will be updated a new questions and situations arise. As always, please contact the Service Desk if you need aliitional assistance or your specific question is not listed.
- Will Banner 9 and My Sam work on any browser?
Yes, however Cognos and BDM still require Internet Explorer.
- I am using Internet Explorer and the new Banner 9 programs seem to be running very slow. What do I do?
Unfortunately, you are not alone. Internet Explorer will work with Banner 9, but you will see performance issues as you have explained. You can use a modern web browser such as Chrome, Edge, or Safari to see performance speeds increase.
Clearing your web browser cache can also improve performance speeds.
- I no longer see the "Advisor" tab. Where is that content?
All of the links and channels that were presented in the "Advisor" tab were the same as those presented in the "Faculty" tab. In the new My Sam portal, we have consolidated those tabs to just the "Faculty" tab.
- I am having trouble with a Banner 9 form functioning correctly. What can I do?
The form could have been updated recently. Try clearing your web browser cache. This will download a fresh copy of that form. If the problem persists, contact the Service Desk.
Please note: After clearing your cache, Banner 9 will have to re-download all forms to your computer. While this happens, you will notice a temporary decrease in performance speeds.
- Where is the link to BDM (Banner Document Management)?
The link to BDM is now found under the "Faculty" and "Employees" tabs.
- Where can I see my Account Balance in the My Sam Portal?
There is a link to view your account balance in the "My Account" section in the "My Account" tab.
- I no longer see a financial advisor graph of my ORG balances. Where do I find this information?
You can find this information in the "Financial Advisor" section on the "Finance" tab.
- Where do I find my leave report/timesheet?
You can find your leave report/timesheet in the Banner Employee Profile. You can find a link to the Banner Employee Profile in the "Employee" tab.
- What about my leave balances, is that in the Banner Employee Profile as well?
Yes. All of your employment information such as leave balances, ePAF approvals, benefits, and leave report/timesheet (among others) are located in the Banner Employee Profile.
- Where is the Faculty Dashboard?
Faculty Dashboard is now located in the "Faculty Self-Service Links" section on the "Faculty" tab.
- Where is the link for FAMIS?
The link for FAMIS is located on the "Employee" tab.
- Where can I find a list of new keyboard shortcuts for Banner 9?
You can find a list of new shortcuts here.
- Where do I find Banner INB?
Banner INB is now called Banner Adminsitrative Applications. A link can be found in the "Employees" tab.
- Can I customize the content on My Sam?
No. You will not be able to create customized views and channels in the My Sam portal. If you have programs that you use frequently, you can create a bookmark in your preferred browser as a way to find those programs quickly.
- Has the process for requesting access to Banner changed?
No. The process is the same. You must contact each functional area and attend required training before access is given to Banner forms.
