William Gibson (BA '95)
Criminal justice graduate William Gibson was awarded the 2008 Department of Homeland Security’s Secretary’s Award for Excellence, one of the department’s highest honors. Gibson is a senior special agent with the Department of Homeland Security/ Immigration and Customs Enforcement in Dallas, where he is an integral member of the North Texas High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area Task Force. He has been with ICE since its inception in 2003. He was selected to receive the award for successfully leading a multi-agency/ nationwide drug smuggling/money laundering organization investigation that resulted in 28 indictments, two of which were businesses. Over $750,000 was seized along with approximately 8,000 pounds of marijuana and 10 kilograms of cocaine. Approximately $1.7 million went back to the U. S. Government from the sale of one of the businesses and as payment for the money judgment against one of the defendants. Gibson is also a veteran of Operation Desert Storm (1991) and Operation Iraqi Freedom (2003).
