Taking the TSI Assessment

1. Take the Pre-Assessment Activity (PAA)
- To access the Pre-Assessment Activity, you will need to visit the Accuplacer website and create your own account for the Practice APP.
- After creating your Accuplacer account, choose the Texas Success Initiative 2.0 Pre-Assessment Activity option.
- You will now be able to begin your Pre-Assessment activity. On the first page please make sure to choose Sam Houston State University.
- Once you have completed your Pre-Assessment Activity through Accuplacer, you will receive a certificate as proof that you have completed the PAA.
- The certificate will be emailed to you so please make sure to enter your email correctly.
- If you do not initially see the PAA certificate in your email inbox and you have confirmed the correct email address was entered, please check your spam box.
- In order to submit your PAA certificate, please email TSI@shsu.edu.
- Once the TSI team has received your certificate and updated your student record to show you have completed the PAA, you can then schedule your TSI Assessment.

2. Schedule your TSI Assessment
- Once you have completed your Pre-Assessment Activity requirements, you will be able to schedule the TSI Assessment through the Sam Houston State University Testing Center.
- The Sam Houston State University Testing Center offers the TSI exam to students through both in person and remote testing options.
- Please contact the Testing Center for any additional assistance at test.ctr@shsu.edu or 936.294.1025.

3. Submit your Scores
- If you have previously taken the TSIA2 at a different institution, you will need to submit a TSI score request form.
- The TSI Score Request Form will provide Sam Houston State University with written permission to download and access your TSI Assessment results.
- Our office may be unable to locate your TSI Assessment scores if the details you provide on the form do not match the information you provided to the Testing Center where you completed the TSI Assessment.
- Please allow up to two business days for your TSI Assessment scores to be updated onto your Sam Houston State University student record.
If you've taken the TSIA2 through the SHSU Testing Center, your scores will be uploaded automatically to your account in 1-2 business days.
Retaking the TSI Assessment?
- Students can retake the TSI Assessment as many times as they wish and at any point during the semester.
- If this is your first time taking the TSIA2, which was implemented January of 2021, you will need to first complete the pre-assessment activity through Accuplacer.
- Schedule an appointment to retake the TSIA2 through our Testing Center.
After Retesting:
If a student retests and passes one or more areas of the TSI Assessment Version 2 (TSIA2) before to the first class day of that semester, the student must be aware of the following:
- Students must provide proof of passing before dropping their developmental course work.
- Student must email TSI@shsu.edu requesting to drop their developmental course work.
- Understand that, if contacted after the first day of class they may be unable to be dropped from their developmental course work.
If a student retests and passes one or more areas of the TSI Assessment Version 2 (TSIA2) after the first class day of that semester, the student must be aware of the following:
- Students must provide proof of passing before stopping attendance.
- Understand the state regulated refund policy will be in place.
- Understand the ramifications of dropping below 12 hours for financial aid/insurance/prerequisites.
- SHSU strongly encourages the students to remain in the class providing a stronger base in the respective remedial area.
