Brian Starr is a certified public accountant and partner with Whitley Penn LLP.  Brian has more than 20 years of audit and assurance experience working with public and private companies. He is a trusted business advisor and consultant for clients in industries such as energy, manufacturing and distribution, oilfield services, software development and sales, real estate and construction and private equity investment companies. He is also the Audit Market Leader for the firm’s Houston office. In this role, Brian is instrumental in recruiting talent for the firm and mentoring young professionals as they join the team.

Brian graduated magna cum laude with a B.B.A. in Accounting from Sam Houston State University in 2002. As a proud Bearkat, he serves on the College of Business Advisory Council and as President-Elect of the Alumni Association for the University.  Brian is also a letterman from the 2001 Southland Conference champion Bearkat Football Team and remains connected to the Athletic Department by mentoring student-athletes and creating opportunities for them to engage with successful Sam Houston alumni as they prepare for next steps after college.

Brian is passionate about serving the community and does so through his position as a director for the Tellepsen Family Downtown YMCA in Houston, and his involvement with both the Houston Energy Finance Group and the Secured Finance Network. Professionally, Brian is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA), and the Texas Society and Houston Chapter of Certified Public Accountants (TXCPA Houston).
