Financial Aid
The following chapters of veteran benefits receive a monthly stipend:
- Chapter 30,
- Chapter 31 (includes tuition, fees, and parking),
- Chapter 35,
- Chapter 1606, and
- Chapter 1607.
The stipend is taken into consideration when calculating financial aid eligibility for all chapters. Since Pell is an entitlement to all qualifying students, they will receive their full Pell eligibility regardless of stipend amount or any other outside assistance. The stipend will affect the eligibility for other need-based financial aid (other grants, Subsidized Stafford Loans, work-study) if the stipend amount exceeds financial need. The exception to this rule is Chapter 30.
When calculating need for Subsidized Stafford Loan eligibility for Chapter 30, the stipend amount is not taken into consideration. EFC (Expected Family Contribution), Pell, and other outside resources (scholarships, tuition assistance, etc.) are taken into consideration when determining need for Subsidized Stafford Loans. The Subsidized Stafford Loan amount may cause a Chapter 30 student to be over budget after the stipend is added back into the calculation, however, this is allowable according to Federal Regulations. A Chapter 30 student may not be awarded campus-based financial aid or Unsubsidized Stafford Loans if it causes them to go over budget.
