The Sam Houston State University Athletics Department will kick off its celebration of the Bearkat Football Team’s 100th season on July 31 with the 27th athletics dinner and auction.
The annual fundraising event benefits the Bearkat football enrichment fund and allows patrons to dine with SHSU athletes, learn more about the program, and bid on a number of items through silent and live auctions.
Activities begin at 5 p.m. with a reception and silent auction, followed by dinner and a program at 7 p.m. and entertainment from Dan Dunn’s Paintjam at 7:45 p.m., all of which will be held in the Bernard G. Johnson Coliseum.
“This is an exciting time for Bearkat football. This event will help build an even stronger program here at Sam Houston,” head coach K.C. Keeler said. “All money raised from ticket sales and the auction will benefit the young men who represent our university and community as Bearkat football players."
Among the items up for bid during the live auction are a speed painting creation by Paintjam artist Dan Dunn; two fishing trips for four in Port O’Connor; an “escape to serenity” hotel stay and spa package at Houston Hotel Granduca; tickets to Houston Rockets and Texans sporting events; jet service for six to an SHSU football game; and other trips and various sporting packages.
Silent auction items will include four club-level Texans vs. San Francisco 49ers football tickets with parking; autographed football college and professional paraphernalia; a photography shoot package; personal training sessions; a limo service package with dinner; and several jewelry packages.
Individual tickets are $75 and table sponsorships (for tables of eight) are available at three levels ranging from $1,250-$5,000.
Since 1988, the annual fundraiser has given SHSU alumni and fans an opportunity to bid on great items and enjoy fellowship and an outstanding meal while helping to create an even stronger SHSU football program.
SHSU stands as one of only three FCS programs that have earned berths in the NCAA Division I playoffs each of the past four years. The Bearkats have won Southland Conference football championships and reached the FCS Final Four in three of those seasons.
The 2015 Bearkat Athletics Dinner and Auction is presented by Carol Hail Weller, ’69, and Joe Weller. Other event sponsors include Carolyn Chipman Faulk, ’70; ARAMARK/SH Dining Services; Jonathan C. Amato, ’08, and Joseph Amato, ’72; and Alan L. Tinsley, PC, and Stewart Builders, Inc.
Table sponsorships and tickets can be purchased by calling 936.294.4758 or at events@shsu.edu. The deadline for purchases is July 24.
