Award winners of the Sam Houston State University’s Internal Grant Program have been selected for fiscal year 2015. The award recipients, listed below, consist of 20 faculty members who have shown the beginnings of excellence in innovative research projects. The program, designed to support and encourage research activities among faculty without having to use departmental funds, is overseen by the Office of Research and Sponsored Programs.
“The internal grants program continues to be a success,” said Jerry Cook, associate vice president for Research and Sponsored Programs. “There were many quality projects submitted, which made selection difficult, but it also demonstrates the quality of research prowess at SHSU.”
Since 2009, more than 125 faculty have received Internal Grant awards to help spearhead research efforts and scholarly pursuits. For more than a decade, this program has been key to helping university administration forward SHSU’s research endeavors.
Recipients who received an Enhancement Research Grant are awarded $15,000, given one year to complete their research proposal, and are required to submit a final report outlining their accomplishments. Additionally, recipients are required to submit at least one external grant proposal related to their Enhancement Research Grant in hopes that awardees will be able to continue their research project with additional external funding.
Ten faculty members were awarded the Faculty Research Grant, which gives $5,000 to the recipient to fund their proposal. This award is to be used during the summer months to complete a scholarly project that gives enhanced value to their specialized field and focused discipline. Submission of a final report to ORSP is required at the end of the recipient’s project as well.
