Kat Tracks Shuttle Steams Ahead For Fall
Sept. 7, 2017
SHSU Media Contact: Tyler Pointer
Facilities Management and Academic Affairs at Sam Houston State University has officially launched the “Kat Tracks” convenience shuttle that will provide transportation to the Huntsville Walmart and Target shopping centers for students to safely acquire necessities.
The shuttle will be utilizing a 15-passenger bus and will run from Wednesday, Sept. 6 through Saturday, Dec. 2.
“The first semester will be a trial run to see how successful this program is,” said Laci LeNorman, assistant to associate vice president for Facilities Management. “It allows students, who have no means of transportation, to have opportunities throughout the week to have access to the things they need.
This program stemmed from the long distance across Huntsville that students would have to take to access major retailers and Facilities Management was tasked with drafting a proposal and program plan to include operation expenses, routes, shuttle hours, transportation, and staffing, according to LeNorman.
While Facilities Management will operate the program, funding is provided by the vice president for Student Affairs.
“Students will be enabled to venture out to major shopping areas and take a break from campus,” LeNorman said. “It can also be used as a means of networking and meeting other students.”
The shuttle will be operating on Wednesdays and Thursdays from 3-8 p.m. and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
The shuttle will be picking up students at Lonestar Hall and Pineywoods Hall and dropping them off at Walmart or Target, once every hour. The first pick up times will be at 3:15 p.m. at Lonestar Hall and at 3:30 p.m. at Pineywoods Hall on Wednesdays and Thursdays. The last pick up times will be at 6 p.m. at Lonestar Hall, 6:15 p.m. at Pineywoods Hall, 7:30 p.m. at Walmart, and 7:45 p.m. at Target.
On Saturdays the shuttle will start their pickup at 10:15 a.m. at the Lonestar Hall and at 10:30 a.m. at Pineywoods Hall. The last pick up times will be at 4 p.m. at the Lonestar Hall, 4:15 p.m. at Pineywoods Hall, 5:30 p.m. at Walmart, and 5:45 p.m. at Target.
