Academics and the arts are not mutually exclusive at Sam Houston State University, and thanks to a new engagement initiative with the Gaertner Performing Arts Center box office, students across all disciplines now have the opportunity to experience and discover the arts for free through gallery exhibits, music recitals, concerts, theatre and dance performances, and more.PACNight1.jpg2

In the past, arts and mass communications majors were allotted one free ticket to performance events, but as of September 23, any SHSU student, in any major, can reserve a free ticket for Department of Theatre and Musical Theatre, Department of Dance and School of Music shows.

This change comes in congruence with the college’s rebrand from the College of Fine Arts and Mass Communication to the College of Arts and Media. The new name references the attributes that the College strives to be, “creative, active, and meaningful to communities.”

“The arts are an important component of a university education. Our college provides a wide variety of exciting experiences in all areas of the arts,” Penelope Hasekoester, associate dean for the college said. “By offering one free ticket per student to performances, we will increase interest and understanding of the various disciplines found in the College of Arts and Media.”

SHSU students can now get one free ticket to CAM events, how do I obtain my ticket?

Free tickets are accessible online the week of the performance up until one hour prior to curtain. Go to www.shsutickets.com and log in to see availability.

How does the system know I am a student here at Sam?

Our ticketing system connects with the University’s Single Sign On system. When you first create an account with us by clicking the “Student / Staff Sign On” button at www.shsutickets.com you will sign into your university account for verification. If you are on a campus computer, this step happens automatically.

Who do I contact if I have an issue?

Please email us at tickets@shsu.edu with any issues related to use of our online ticketing system.

Do I need to pick my ticket up at the Box Office?

When you book your ticket online, you can choose to have it electronically delivered to you or you can pick up a paper ticket at the Box Office (Will Call).  Electronic tickets are sent to your email address.  If you choose the electronic ticket option print them out or use a mobile device to show the ushers for entry.

Where is the Box Office located?

Our main location is in the lobby area of the Gaertner Performing Arts Center, room 140.  For events in the University Theatre Center, we also open a second box office in that building, room 109, found in the lobby area.
