Sam Houston State University College of Business Administration has named Rhonda Ellisor as director of the university’s Small Business Development Center. She joins the center after serving at SHSU in the Office of University Advancement for 13 years as director for major gifts and recently development representative for the newly formed SHSU Center for Entrepreneurship.
As an SHSU alumna holding a BBA in general business, Ellisor sees her new role as one that fits perfectly with her experience in the Huntsville community, with the university and her passion for building professional relationships throughout the region for more than 30 years.
Ellisor’s background includes work with various types of small businesses as a small business employee, small business consultant and small business family member, founder and owner. She also has a long history in a variety of real estate sales and leasing, promotion, event planning, budgeting and marketing positions. Prior to serving SHSU, she served as the executive vice president for the Huntsville-Walker County Chamber of Commerce and director of the Convention & Visitors Bureau and the Sam Houston Statue Visitor Center and Gift Shop.
“During my time with the Chamber of Commerce, I worked to bring the local business community together and develop pro-business initiatives. The SBDC is a great asset at Sam Houston State, allowing us to engage with the small business community, which is an essential part of our regional economy and the creation of jobs. I look forward to helping entrepreneurs and business owners start, grow, expand and succeed,” Ellisor said.
Located in the SHSU University Plaza building on the west side of Huntsville, the main objective of the SBDC is to help small businesses get started and to help existing businesses raise their profit potential. The center aims to promote and strengthen the economic well-being of the community through a variety of educational services for small business owners and entrepreneurs.
