CARES Act Funding Information

SHSU Media Contact:
SHSU applied for CARES Act funding on April 13, 2020 and received $17.4 million. Half of the amount received, $8.7 million, was designated for student emergency grants with the other half going to assist the university.
Based on requirements, approximately 12,000 Bearkats were eligible to receive grant money through the CARES Act. As of May 20, $4.4 million has been awarded to 2,833 students.
The process for receiving the CARES grant is:
- Apply online
- Committee reviews application for technology needs, food and housing insecurities, and general needs
- Bearkat receive funds
- Watch the COVID-19 website under current students for the next application on June 1, 2020
