The Orange Keys serve as the official university ambassadors and hosts for Sam Houston State University and have done so by hosting in-person events around campus over the years. With continued restrictions on event size, the program is adapting to the new normal by hosting events virtually.
The Orange Keys will now be official ambassadors through a new YouTube series, “SHSU Unlocked,” to inform students of the various resources, departments and initiatives that are available on campus.
Rainey Riley, vice president of the Orange Keys, explains that the series will emphasize the importance of community during a time of hybrid courses and social distancing.
“Staying connected to your peers is more important than ever before,” Riley said. “Times are changing fast, and when the Orange Keys noticed a need for students to get information from leaders on our campus, we knew that we had to step in and provide that to our students.”
Students will be able to start watching these videos on the Orange Keys’ YouTube channel on Thursday, Aug. 28. The segments will feature various guests and campus leaders including SHSU President Alisa White, Vice President of Student Affairs Frank Parker, Director of Athletics Bobby Williams, college deans and many other familiar faces.
“I am personally most excited to have a wide variety of guests on our series so that the student body can hear messages from leaders all across campus,” Riley said. “Our segments are unique to say the least, and I know students will want to hear what we and our guests have to say.”
Videos will be uploaded every Thursday for the fall semester and are accessible through the Orange Keys YouTube page.
