Board of Regents Approve SHSU Items

parking garage north mapCapital improvement projects were among the Sam Houston State University items approved by The Texas State University System Board of Regents during the board’s quarterly meeting held virtually on Monday (Dec. 7).

In planning and construction, Regents approved design development documents for a new parking structure on Ave. I, north of the existing Sam Houston parking garage. The project includes the design, construction and implementation of a 185,780 square foot, five level structure with approximately 546 parking spaces.

TSUS provided an update to approved FY2021-2026 capital improvements. The SHSU capital improvements presented include:

  • Active Learning Center
  • Allied Health Sciences Building
  • COM Parking Structure
  • Garrett TEC Renovation
  • Gibbs Ranch Equestrian Facility & Agriculture Labs
  • Recreational Sports Expansion
  • Campus Infrastructure Maintenance & Repair, 2021 – 2026
  • Miscellaneous Campus Renovation, 2024 - 2026

In contracts, Regents approved SHSU’s agreement with Van Wagner Sports & Entertainment LLC. The agreement for services relates to multi-media rights (sponsorship, broadcasting and advertising), and will promote and maximize the commercial value of the university’s athletic events, facilities and other intercollegiate athletic activities.

The board also recognized SHSU professor of Biological Sciences, Jerry Cook, as a recipient of the 2020 Regents’ Professor award. The designation recognizes professors who have achieved excellence in outstanding research, teaching and service.
