Kick off the new year and new semester with Spring Welcome Week 2020. Connect with new and returning Bearkats through food, festivities and fun. Welcome Week is a chance to explore campus, make new friends, and learn what it takes to be successful at Sam Houston State University.
1. The Missing Link
Join the Department of Leadership Initiatives to find your organization’s missing link and enjoy a hot chocolate bar while supplies last.

2. Polar Bearkat Plunge
Join Rec Sports in the fourth-annual Polar Bearkat Plunge. Come to the RSC pool for a quick dip to kick off the school year. Free T-shirts to the first 50 participants. Cocoa and snacks will be provided.

3. New Year, New Me

5. Fitfest
Need help or just looking for a new way to stay healthy? Meet with a personal trainer at the RSC Gym to find out more about setting your fitness goals. A free lunch bag will be offered to participants while supplies last, and group fitness class demos will be rotating throughout the evening.

7. Bearkat Spirit Friday
It's Friday, so wear your orange. Initiating a sense of pride and spirit at SHSU, Bearkat Spirit Friday is a weekly program held every Friday in the fall and spring semesters. Student Activities will be distributing various items to students who are wearing orange and white as an incentive to support the program and university.

8. Lunar New Year
The Center for Diversity & Intercultural Affairs presents “Lunar New Year.” Come and learn about the traditions and culture around Lunar New Year with the Diversity Council. Fun Fact: 2020 is the year of the rat.

9. Bearkat BBQ Cook-Off
Join Bearkat Athletics and SHSU Student Activities for the Bearkat BBQ Cookoff. The event is free for all students, faculty and staff with their Bearkat OneCard. The cookoff is open to all organizations, departments and colleges on campus to compete in. Categories include chili, brisket and ribs. Cash prizes for the winners.
