Bearkats around the state continue to celebrate winning the FCS national championship earlier this month. The national championship trophy has been seen in many photos touring the state and its latest stop was at the Texas Capitol.

On Thursday, members of the Bearkats football team met with Gov. Greg Abbott during a reception in Austin. Lawmakers also took time during the legislative session to honor the team and congratulate them on their 23-21 victory over South Dakota State, which secured Sam Houston State University’s second national championship.

Chancellor Brian McCall, SHSU President Alisa White, Athletic Director Bobby Williams, and student-athletes Trevor Williams, Ife Adeyi, Ryan Humphries, Markel Perry, Eric Schmid and Joe Wallace were presented with the reading of a resolution on the floor of the house and senate.

“On behalf of a very proud state, congratulations on your national championship,” Sen. Charles Schwertner said.
