Sam Houston State University is No. 3 among the Best Valued Online Colleges in Texas by TexasOnlineColleges.com.
SHSU’s position in this category reflects the institution's academic quality and economic value, based on the cost of obtaining an undergraduate degree. The ranking is based upon seven data points; student-faculty ratio, the number of degrees awarded annually, the graduation rate, the retention rate, the percentage of online students, the concentrated influence and desirability.
Concentrating on state data, TexasOnlineColleges.com provides future students with detailed information to help them find the best balance of quality and affordability.
“We've indexed and analyzed every online program offered by colleges and universities in Texas to give prospective students the best source for finding an online degree in-state,” Outreach Specialist Kelly Waller said. “Because we focus on Texas, we're able to dive deeper into program stats offered. We also utilize local career information to give prospective students more realistic job growth stats and salary information, compared to looking at national averages.”
The ranking also recognized SHSU’s efforts in supporting first-generation and veteran students. SHSU was also described as an “adult student friendly school” based on the university’s ability to offer flexible online programs, with graduate-level options for those looking to advance in their professional fields.
SHSU’s most recent enrollment report indicates that 4,446 SHSU students participated in learning online exclusively for the fall 2020 semester – an increase of 21 percent compared to fall 2019. That figure does not include students who transitioned to remote or hybrid learning due to the pandemic.
TexasOnlineColleges.com also recently named SHSU No. 5 in Best Online College in Texas and No. 8 in Most Affordable Online College in Texas.
