SHSU Names Associate Vice Provost For Student Success

Amelia Salazar, EdD, has been named the new associate vice provost for student success at Sam Houston State University, effective Nov. 7.
The associate vice provost for student success will oversee the development and implementation of student success initiatives to increase student retention and graduation rates, and eliminate achievement gaps.
“I’m so pleased to have Dr. Salazar join SHSU in this position that is so central to our mission,” Anne Gaillard, vice provost, said. “She has more than a decade of proven experience taking student-focused initiatives and programs to scale, eliminating opportunity and achievement gaps, and making a positive impact on student success.”
Salazar joins SHSU after five years at The University of Alabama, one as their executive director of Student Success and four as their director of First Year Experience and Retention Initiatives.
Prior to her time at The University of Alabama, she held positions related to student success including working with interdisciplinary graduate programs, TRiO Student Support Services (SSS), and undergraduate research at the University of Central Florida.
