Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering Technology with a Minor in Dance

A first-generation student, Brandon Fierro was raised by a single mom in Carlsbad, New Mexico. With the help of his mother, Fierro decided what to study and what other passions to follow.

“My mother told me not to put all my eggs in one basket,” Fierro said. “I didn’t need a dance degree to be a successful dancer.”

Fierro changed his major from dance to mechanical engineering technology.

“I didn’t want to focus on ballet and modern concepts,” Fierro said. “I felt like an engineering degree would help set me up financially.”

Fierro was also a part of the Orange Pride Dance Team, where they won two national titles.

While learning new dance moves, Fierro has served as a physics and mathematics teacher assistant who has helped numerous students.

“I just really wanted to be more involved with the school during my last semester,” he said.

Aside from regular school work, learning routines, and tutoring, Fierro was also one of the recipients of the Joseph B. Engineering Scholarship, has been on the president’s list, and the dean’s list.

“I will miss the community and the never-ending support from my teachers,” Fierro said. “I will miss my teammates, my friends, and will cherish every memory and lesson learned from my time here.”

While the future is uncertain, Fierro will follow his passion.

“I am planning to audition for the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders this May and be the first male to be accepted into the squad,” Fierro said.
