Quitaque 2A photography exhibit at the Sam Houston Memorial Museum & Republic of Texas Presidential Library will feature the natural textures and patterns in Texas’ landscape, and the stark contrast in the dilapidation of things left behind. “Bones of Texas” is a photography and storytelling project by photographers Morgan Page and Dustin Rice borne from a shared keen interest in Texas history and an adventurous spirit in exploring Texas landscapes.

In the tradition of modernist photographers Edward Westin, Minor White and Margaret Bourke-White, photography duo Page and Rice traveled thousands of miles around Texas to capture their large collection of iconic Texas imagery. Photographs in the exhibition will be accompanied by placards that weave stories of personal emotion and forgotten presence and absence in and around the remaining architecture.

“I am excited to have this exhibit here at the museum,” said Jude Routh, curator of exhibits. “I was perusing the internet and saw one of the images from the exhibit that caught my eye.”

The museum welcomed Page and Rice at an opening reception on Thursday, March 9, 2023, at the Katy & E. Don Walker, Sr. Education Center from 6:00 - 7:30 p.m. The artists gave an exhibit talk and answered questions about their work in a Q&A session.

The exhibition will run in the exhibit gallery until May 7, 2023.  Gallery hours are Tuesday – Saturday 9 a.m. - 4:30pm and Sunday 12 p.m. - 4:30 p.m. For more information visit samhoustonmemorialmuseum.com.
