Sam Houston State University (SHSU) and Crisis Response Leader Training (CRLT), Inc., are proud to announce a groundbreaking partnership to strengthen safety and security education for future educators and administrators. Beginning in January 2025, the Leadership for Safe Schools Training Series will provide specialized, evidence-based training through SHSU’s Center for Assessment, Research, and Educational Safety (CARES).

This innovative series equips educators and administrators with critical skills to address safety challenges in schools. CRLT will provide its advanced 3D simulation platform, The Incident, along with scenario-based lesson content tailored for education professionals. The program incorporates holistic tabletop exercises to simulate real-life emergencies, enabling collaboration among schools, first responders and community members. Participants will engage in hands-on training designed to enhance situational awareness and crisis response, fostering resilience and preparedness.

“This partnership offers a world-class, innovative training platform at a time when educators and first responders urgently need solutions to safety challenges,” said Matthew Fuller, professor and director of CARES. “Regular training on this platform ensures that educators and first responders are prepared to apply life-saving principles if crises arise. The Leadership for Safe Schools Training Series is a timely and cost-effective approach to keeping our schools safe.”

Tod Langley, CEO of CRLT sees the collaboration with SHSU as an important step forward in achieving their team’s mission of school safety.

“CRLT is honored to partner with SHSU on this essential program for our nation’s schools,” Langley said. “From the beginning, our team has been committed to creating a 3D simulation experience that prioritizes the safety of our K-12 communities. We are proud of the pioneering work we’ve done, thanks to the hard work of the CRLT team, whose vision and skill have made it possible to support safer schools across the country.”

The College of Education at SHSU is also integrating the training series into its academic programs. Participants will have the opportunity to earn college credit in the Bachelor of Educational Studies and graduate programs.

“Schools and universities face unprecedented challenges in securing campuses and preventing violence,” said Stacey Edmonson, dean of the College of Education. “SHSU is leading the charge in preparing educators to prevent and respond to threats, ensuring students return to their families safer and smarter each day.”

This initiative represents a significant step toward fostering a culture of prevention, preparedness and resilience in schools and communities.
