NewSHMarks_PressRelease edit.jpgSam Houston State University is proud to announce the launch of a refreshed visual identity, ushering in a new era for the institution. This debut is the first phase of an extensive rebranding roll-out.

Marking a significant step towards connecting the university’s brand with its athletics program, the new visuals encompass a university logo, typeface, color palette, university marks and additional design elements. Bearkats will be pleased to see that the signature orange and white remain integral to the brand, with a few new colors added to enrich the visual appeal.

“A growing trend in universities around the country is to have similar marks that represent both the university and the athletics program,” said Zack Jones, director of creative design and production. “The new marks evoke school pride, and align with the athletic mark which is becoming more and more recognizable.”

Supporting the institution’s strategic priority to elevate the reputation and visibility of SHSU, this initiative reflects a commitment to evolving while staying true to historical roots. New design elements—including the Raven and the bells—celebrate the university’s namesake and showcase the unique character and beauty of campus.

NewSHDesignElements_PressRelease edit.jpgTo create a new brand that resonates with the campus community and beyond, SHSU’s Integrated Marketing Communications team recruited a variety of individuals to participate in the rebranding effort.

"Many people have played a part in our rebranding process," said Russell Martinez, assistant vice president for marketing and branding. "Our partner, Simpson Scarborough, conducted extensive research through surveys and focus groups, gathering invaluable feedback from a wide range of stakeholders and supporters. This was an important step to ensure that our efforts resonate authentically with our community and effectively represent Sam Houston State.”

The next stages in the rebranding process will include a full brand launch in the fall, followed by the introduction of a new SHSU website in Spring 2025.
