The Sam Houston State University College of Business Administration (COBA) chapter of Phi Chi Theta, a national co-ed business and economics fraternity, is continuing its strong tradition of community service by participating in the Bearkat All Paws In (BAPI) initiative. Organized annually by the university’s Student Government Association, BAPI brings together student volunteers to support Huntsville and the surrounding communities through various projects. This year, Phi Chi Theta, alongside fellow business organizations, partnered with Habitat for Humanity to build homes in Conroe, TX.

Phi Chi Theta members engaged in critical tasks such as roofing, installing windowsills and measuring and cutting boards. The project was not only a way to make a tangible difference but also a chance to embody the fraternity's values of service, leadership and professionalism.

"What this means to us at Phi Chi Theta is it's a great way to give back to the community," said Bryce McAllister, president of the COBA chapter.

PhiChiTheta-Hwy-noarrow.pngThe Habitat for Humanity initiative is particularly important as it seeks to create affordable housing for those who might otherwise struggle to find safe, sturdy homes. By working on the roofing and other structural elements of the homes, Phi Chi Theta and its partners helped ensure that the families will not only have a place to live but also a place to thrive.

In addition to their work with Habitat for Humanity, Phi Chi Theta has adopted two highways in Huntsville as part of their ongoing commitment to the local community. The fraternity is responsible for cleaning up these highways twice a semester, ensuring that the roads remain litter-free and safe for everyone. This consistent effort reflects the fraternity's dedication to maintaining a cleaner and more beautiful environment for the Huntsville area.

"I am proud to be the advisor for a fraternity that has community service as one of its core values," said Danica Schieber, faculty advisor for Phi Chi Theta. "When our students are out in the community, they learn leadership, social skills and problem solving, but most importantly, they experience the value of helping others and how empathy can change the world."

As Phi Chi Theta continues its involvement in future community service projects, the fraternity remains committed to strengthening both its members and the communities they serve. Their efforts, whether through Habitat for Humanity or regular highway cleanups, exemplify their mission to make a lasting positive impact.
