The Sam Houston State University College of Osteopathic Medicine (SHSU-COM) has received a generous $25,000 gift from the estate of Euzella "Lee" Holland Ford, a lifelong animal lover and dedicated rancher from Maysville, North Carolina. Lee passed away at the age of 90, leaving behind a legacy rooted in hard work, compassion and a desire to support future medical advancements.

Growing up on a farm in Eastern North Carolina, Lee was instilled with a strong work ethic by her parents. Together with her late husband, Logan, she raised horses and other animals on their ranch, cherishing her time in both North Carolina and Texas. Her commitment to the well-being of others extended beyond her own communities, inspiring her decision to leave a $25,000 gift to SHSU-COM.

This gift will fund vital research in the field of cardiology, providing SHSU-COM students and faculty with the resources to conduct studies to advance cardiovascular health. Her contribution will play a pivotal role in advancing medical knowledge and training compassionate physicians to serve patients in rural and medically-underserved areas—a core focus of SHSU-COM’s mission.

“Donations like Ms. Holland Ford’s make cutting-edge research possible,” said Thomas Mohr, DO, dean of SHSU-COM. “Her generous gift honors her legacy by enabling our students and faculty to expand their understanding of cardiovascular health and improve outcomes for patients in need.”

SHSU-COM is dedicated to addressing healthcare challenges in rural communities, especially in Texas, where access to care is often limited. Through research and education, the college continues to develop innovative approaches to improve the health and well-being of these populations.

Holland Ford’s kindness and vision will be remembered as a powerful investment in the future of medicine that will have a lasting impact on SHSU-COM and its mission.
