Jorn (Chi-Chung) Yu, a forensic science professor in the Sam Houston State University College of Criminal Justice (SHSU CJ), has been appointed to the Houston Forensic Science Center’s (HFSC) board of directors by Houston Mayor John Whitmire.

Established in 2012, the Houston Forensic Science Center is an independent, city-government corporation that provides forensic services to the Houston Police Department using its state-of-the-art laboratory.

Yu is one of nine directors serving on HFSC’s board.

“The Houston Forensic Science Center is one of the best forensic science laboratories in the country,” Yu said. “I’m excited to be a part of the HFSC board of directors and help guide the first local government-owned forensic science organization with a focus on independence and high quality.”

He also envisions his time serving on the HFSC board will provide a deeper understanding of current industry needs to help inform how the SHSU CJ Department of Forensic Science prepares students for their future.

“We want to learn what the needs are for the workforce,” Yu said. “Through our research, we’re creating solutions for the industry. But at the same time, we need to know what’s going on in the field.”

Yu is currently serving his first term on the HFSC board, which will expire in June 2026.
