On February 12, SHSU Physicians, the primary care practice affiliated with Sam Houston State University College of Osteopathic Medicine (SHSU-COM), welcomed local community members to an open house event. The gathering provided an opportunity for residents, local leaders and healthcare professionals to tour the state-of-the-art facility, meet the healthcare team and learn about the comprehensive medical services offered.
Guided tours led by SHSU-COM student ambassadors showcased key features of the facility, including spacious exam rooms designed for patient comfort, dedicated osteopathic manipulative medicine (OMM) treatment rooms and specialized spaces for resident physicians, such as a classroom, on-call room and workroom. The open layout and abundant natural light underscore the patient-centered approach—creating an inviting environment that promotes both healing and learning.
Throughout the afternoon, approximately 150 community members attended, engaging in conversations with healthcare staff, SHSU-COM medical students and faculty. Many expressed their appreciation for the modern design and welcoming atmosphere, as well as their excitement about having access to high-quality care that integrates academic medicine with patient treatment.
The event featured remarks from several distinguished speakers, including SHSU Provost Michael T. Stephenson, SHSU-COM Dean Dr. Thomas J. Mohr and SHSU Physicians Medical Director and SHSU-COM Assistant Dean of Clinical Affairs Dr. Craig Boudreaux. Each reflected on SHSU Physicians’ journey—opening just before the COVID-19 pandemic—and its growth into a trusted healthcare provider in the region.

- Boudreaux highlighted the patient-centered approach, ensuring individuals receive high-quality, compassionate care close to home.
- Mohr spoke about the benefits of being affiliated with SHSU-COM, noting that SHSU Physicians’ doctors not only provide patient care but also serve as faculty, staying at the forefront of medical advancements through teaching and research.
