Mission

The mission of the Engineering Technology program at Sam Houston State University is to provide an educational program designed to assist students in acquiring the knowledge, skills, and experiences through which they may prepare themselves for rewarding and meaningful roles in an engineering and technology society.

Accreditation

The Engineering Technology program is now accredited by the Association of Technology, Management, and Applied Engineering (ATMAE).

History

The Engineering Technology program has offered degrees since its founding in 1910. Over the past 100+ years the program has evolved to meet the changing needs of business & industry. Engineering Technology majors use principles and theories of science, engineering, and mathematics to solve technical problems in research and development, manufacturing, sales, construction, inspection, and maintenance. The engineering technology program at Sam Houston State University is intended to provide students with the educational experience to meet industry management, leadership, physical sciences, technology of industry, and basic engineering for the solution of problems involving industrial products, services, materials and processes, and the supervision and management of facilities and personnel.

Student Performance and Achievement Information

Click here to see Student Performance and Achievement Information for Engineering Technology. There are three concentrations under Engineering Technology (the concentrations are not separated out in this data). A notable scholarship Engineering Technology students can apply for is the Fred Pirkle Endowed Scholarship. It is no less than $5,000 if awarded, and it is awarded to qualifying full-time undergraduate or graduate students majoring in a discipline with a curriculum dedicated to Engineering Technology. Students must maintain a minimum GPA of 2.50 for this scholarship, and it is a one-time award that students must reapply for future consideration. Prospective and current students can use the SHSU Cost Calculator to estimate expected costs of attending SHSU. Click here to see the SHSU Cost Calculator.
