19th Annual Undergraduate Research Symposium

Mission Statement

The URS was conceived of and is hosted by the Honors College Student Ambassadors, who believe in the importance of sharing undergraduate research in a multi-disciplinary environment. It was created to:

• Provide a forum for students to present their research to faculty and other students
• Give students the opportunity to practice public speaking to prepare for future conferences
• Give students the chance to network with other students and faculty
• Help students grow as emerging professionals in their fields of study

URS Event Information

To achieve these ends, the URS is a congenial, positive, professional environment, and faculty volunteers serve as respondents to provide informal yet constructive feedback to everyone who presents.

The Undergraduate Research Symposium is held at the Sam Houston State University campus in the Lowman Student Center. The conference will be held on Saturday, April 18, 2026 from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM.

Please plan to stay for the whole conference: Symposia are not organized (and in this case, paid for) so that you can present your work and leave; they are intended to foster collegiality and to promote the exchange of ideas. Plan to attend other sessions and visit the posters during our poster session. Join us for lunch; it’s FREE!

Remember to invite your faculty advisor, family, and friends. They can join us for FREE but must register so we can account for their event materials and meals.

We will be discussing not only what the URS is, but also details about how to present, what your abstract should look like and we will give more information about the SCHOLARSHIPS offered.

This is also a great time to bring up any questions you may have!
