Percussion Studies

The percussion program at Sam Houston State encourages students to become versatile musicians and educators through the study of pedagogical materials and performance applications. Students at SHSU follow a sequential study of snare drum, mallets, timpani, multiple percussion, jazz vibraphone, and drumset.

Percussion students at SHSU are provided with the opportunity to perform in a variety of musical settings. Opportunities exist in the chamber music format for the performance of new music, electronic music, and world music through the Sam Houston Percussion Group, University Percussion Ensemble, and the SHSU Steel Band.
