SHSU Choirs
Sam Houston State University has a rich tradition of excellent singing. The choral program has several choirs that vary according to semester, including Chorale, Women's Choir, and Men's Choir. Highlights for the choral program include national and international concert tours, national and state convention invitations, including ACDA, SWACDA, and TMEA, and recent collaborations with Houston Masterworks Chorus, Houston Ballet, and the Rice University Chorale and Symphony Orchestra.
Each ensemble consists of talented, energetic, and committed students. Choral ensembles are open to all SHSU students by audition. Click on a specific link to learn more about individual ensembles.
CHORALE
MWF, 1:00-1:50; TR, 12:30-1:50
Dr. Joshua Bronfman
The SHSU Chorale is the premiere choral ensemble at Sam Houston State University, under the direction of Dr. Joshua Bronfman. It consists of the top singers and musicians from across the campus. The choir explores a wide variety of repertoire including Renaissance motets, Baroque gems such as Schütz's Musikalische Exequien, works by Romantic masters such as Brahms and Bruckner, and contemporary compositions from America and Scandinavia. This nationally recognized ensemble most recently performed as an invited choir at the Southwestern American Choral Director's Association Convention in Little Rock, Arkansas in March 2019. Additional recent convention invitations include performances at the American Choral Directors Association (2007), the Southwestern American Choral Directors Association (2010, 2014), and the Texas Music Educators Association (2010). Singers are primarily students who are pursuing a degree in music, and a number of talented non-music majors.
