Accreditation
SHSU-COM received full accreditation status from the Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation (COCA) in April of 2024. SHSU-COM was awarded 'Accreditation with Exceptional Outcome' which provides 10 years of accreditation and is the highest status that can be achieved. SHSU-COM’s Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) program was reviewed and approved by the following entities:
- The Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation (COCA) – the AOA’s accreditation body as codified in 34 CFR §602, ensuring that all COMs have met or exceed the Commission’s Standards for educational quality;
- The Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) – the regional body for the accreditation of degree-granting higher education institutions in the Southern states; and
- The Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board – a Texas agency that oversees all public post-secondary education in the state.
