Campus Recreation Center

The Campus Recreation Center (CRC) is considered "home" for Campus Recreation. It is used for all program areas. The CRC houses 5 multipurpose courts for basketball, volleyball, badminton, pickleball etc. The Campus Recreation Center also houses 3 studios, 3 racquetball courts, rock wall and bouldering area, a multifunctional training room, large weight room, and more! Located at the corner of Avenue O and 17th Street, the Pritchett Field Complex has two outdoor athletic fields and a 1/4 mile track. The lower field is turfed and lighted. This facility is the home of several of our Club Sports programs, such as Lacrosse, Rugby, and Soccer. Recreational Sports programs and academic classes are given priority for reservations.

University Camp

The University Camp vision is to serve as an introduction to the traditions of service and excellence for many students, faculty and staff. It is a place where groups can escape the confines of campus and venture into nature in order to build relationships, encourage team-building and develop as leaders.

Many years ago, SHSU acquired 345 acres of land on the Trinity River in Walker County, Texas, just 15 miles from Huntsville. The Department of Recreational Sports has since been developing this property into a truly unique treasure for the Sam Houston State community.

We are now at the cusp of bringing something magnificent to Sam Houston State. The University Camp will house a wide variety of programs to the campus community. Many activities will be held here ranging from faculty, staff, and student development programs and orientations, to social gatherings and Alumni events. Our series of high and low rope elements are utilized by campus organizations and departments to develop a better sense of camaraderie and teamwork.

CRC Pool

The Swimming Pool is outdoor, heated (seasonally), and fun! We have 4, 25 yd lap lanes and a leisure area which can be used for water volleyball, water basketball, or certain intramural and special events. Additional amenities include a sun tanning area, large chairs and covered tables.

Sand Volleyball Courts

Sand Volleyball Courts 801 Bowers Blvd #162 Huntsville, Texas 77340 Two marked sand volleyball courts are located just east of the HKC and are available during the HKC operational hours. McAdams Tennis & Pickleball Complex 

Located behind the Campus Recreation Center, the McAdams Tennis & Pickleball Complex is composed of 4 regulation tennis courts and 8 regulation pickleball courts. These courts are monitored and maintained by the Department of Campus Recreation. Any questions regarding the facility should be directed to a member of the Campus Recreation Professional Staff.

Hours

Monday through Sunday from 6:00am – 10pm

Reservations

The courts at the McAdams Tennis & Pickleball Complex can be reserved by Sam Houston State patrons throughout the year. A valid and current Campus Recreation membership is required for a reservation to be placed. If interested in reserving these courts, please submit a reservation request at the link below and a member of the Campus Recreation Professional Staff will reach out to you.

Equipment

Patrons are encouraged to bring their own equipment when visiting the complex. If you do not have your own equipment, pickleball and tennis equipment can be checked-out at the Campus Recreation Center’s Member Services desk during posted operational hours. Items should be returned prior to the facility closing to avoid overdue or missing fees.

Maintenance & Upkeep

To preserve the longevity of the courts and their surfaces/equipment, Campus Recreation asks that patrons do not modify the courts in any way. This includes, but is not limited to adjusting nets, using chalk or tape to change lines, or moving any seating. All maintenance, suggestions, or concerns regarding the complex and its courts should be directed to a member of the Campus Recreation team.
